Ever since Stormy was a toddler, we have gone to one farm, Y Worry in Davidsonville, each year to pick out pumpkins. Most years we go on the days that the farm has its Agricultural Festival. On Festival days, there are animals to see, scarecrows to make, pony rides, and a ton of stuff to do! Even better, most activities are free. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, there was no festival this year, but we still had a great time!
There is ample parking in two different fields, as well as port a potties. I was impressed today when I saw what measures the farm was taking to keep everyone safe. When we walked up, the first thing we saw were the safety rules. Masks were required in the tents, but optional in the field. Many people were still wearing masks, though, in the pumpkin patch and corn maze. There was plenty of space, too, to social distance. To aid in pumpkin transport, the farm provides wagons. This year, there was a designated area for wagon return, and staff sanitized each wagon before loaning them out again.
I also noticed that the check out area had been enlarged. Normally, there was one line in a small tent, but this year there was a cash line and a credit card line, and both were well spaced. This tent had a hand sanitizer station.
After snagging a wagon, we headed to the field with 2 other families we knew. The kids were very excited, hopping on and off the wagons. We passed two food tents on our way with items to purchase like kettle corn, hot apple cider, doughnuts, etc. When we arrived in the pumpkin patch, there were a ton to choose from in several different fields! All had been cut loose from the vines to make it easier to select.
Stormy wanted a big pumpkin, and Rainbow and Pebble had a blast running around looking for the perfect pumpkin! Pebble has no memory of the patch from last year, and she loved pointing to the pumpkins yelling, “pumpkin!” Each girl changed their mind more than once! Rainbow also hitched a ride with a friend on their wagon, and the two kids giggled like crazy as the friend’s dad pulled the wagon over the bumpy ground of the patch. After everyone had found their pumpkins, the kids checked out the corn maze. It wasn’t much of a maze, and the kids basically ran laps through it. Even Pebble ran through it 3 or 4 times, sometimes with her sisters, sometimes with me or her dad…
We didn’t stay at the farm more than an hour. It was a hot day and the kids got tired quickly after running through the maze multiple times. Stormy can’t wait to decorate her pumpkin tomorrow. She wants a Harry Potter themed pumpkin, and Rainbow says she wants a unicorn. I highly recommend this small family owned farm! Definitely check them out! The farm has a FB page with all the necessary info! Happy trails!
