It was a chilly Saturday morning, but we all needed fresh air. Everyone bundled up, and we set off to check out a historic site called Historic Linthicum Walks in Gambrills, MD. The home is more than 200 years old, and the land surrounding it once supported crops like tobacco. Now the site is bracketed by Crofton Middle School and Crofton High School.

The driveway into Linthicum Walks is unpaved, and there is room for only one car at a time. There was a large grassy lot to park in, and we were the only people there. We made our way over to the front porch of the house, and peeked in the windows. We could hear Christmas music, and see how the home had once been set up for Christmas. On the porch was a Winter Scavenger Hunt that Stormy and Rainbow were both eager to try.

Stormy read the list aloud to Rainbow, and both girls ran off giggling. The hunt was on! The girls made a beeline to a beautiful old tree nearby, and, once they’d read the sign on it, they realized they’d found the Himalayan Cedar Tree. Rainbow was also quick to point out the many bird feeders hanging from its branches.

Flush with success, we began exploring the grounds for more items on the list. Rainbow loved to point out the signs on the various trees so we could tell her what type of tree it was. It was amazing how well labeled everything was! On one corner of the property, Stormy spotted the old family graveyard.

We slowly circled the property keeping our eyes peeled. Pebble had fun simply picking up sticks and running up and down the small hills. A few items on the list eluded us, namely the pineapple and French horn, but we eventually found everything!

We stayed here no more than an hour, and we had a great time! Stormy and Rainbow both said they’d love to come back to the Site if it does any more scavenger hunts. I would like to see the place in the spring when the flowers bloom. The lilac garden is probably gorgeous then! The Site is open from dawn to dusk. I’m including the website, but it isn’t well maintained. We found out about this place through a fellow mom on Facebook so Facebook may be a better resource for this place. Happy trails!
