Yes, we did this event last year, but I’m trying to catch up on blog posts, past and present, plus, as you may have noticed, I’m also reorganizing my blog. Patience, please! I’m no genius at webpage design, and I’m slowly learning through a lot of trial and error. There are still a few dead links, but me and my blog are works in progress! When I finish with my blog, I’ll move on to my Facebook page. Slow and steady wins the race! Okay, back to our very first holiday adventure of 2021!

We were visiting family in the Hudson Valley area for Thanksgiving, and I spotted a billboard that mentioned a drive-thru holiday lights event at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. I looked online for more information, and the event began on November 25th, Thanksgiving, perfect timing! The website for the event also provided a link to buy tickets. I almost fell over, however, when I saw the price. One passenger vehicle, w/ up to 8 passengers, was $25! I ended up getting a discount by using Groupon, which brought the price down quite a bit.

On a brisk Friday night, I loaded everyone into the clown car, aka the minivan. Grandpa and Stormy in the back; hubby, Pebble, and Rainbow in the middle; and Grandma and me up front. The entrance for the fairgrounds was easy to spot, we weren’t the first to arrive, and there was a line of cars waiting to enter.

Once we passed the gatekeepers, after showing them our ticket barcode, we slowly began our drive-thru. I opened the windows for the middle row of the van, and all 3 girls scrambled out of their car seats to hang out the windows. It was a wonderful, albeit, short drive. The tunnel of lights, and anything penguin, were the big winners.

Once we’d reached the end, we found a spot to pull over to buckle everyone back in again. All 3 girls begged to drive through a second time, but that wasn’t an option unless we wanted to pay again and that wasn’t happening! Would we do it again on future trips? Not sure as it was expensive and much shorter than any drive-thru light event down in the Maryland area. Overall, though, it was a fun and beautiful start to the 2021 Christmas season. Happy trails!
