When I heard about a playground in Bowie that had undergone a recent renovation, Pebble and I decided to go check it out. Glen Allen Park can be accessed two ways. If you type Glen Allen Park into your GPS, it will take you the lot nearest the ball fields off of Atlantis Drive. Instead, turn on Excalibur Rd., and, shortly after you make the turn, you will see a sign for the park on your right. Once you drive in, you will see a large parking lot that is partially shaded. There is a porta-potty available, too, plus there is a covered pavilion for picnic lunches.

I barely got Pebble unbuckled before she was out of the car, and running down the short path to the playground. The first thing to catch her eye was the giant red Chevrolet that she could climb on. From that vantage point, she spotted a zip line and was off and running again. Unlike the zip line at Horsepen Park, this one is much closer to the ground, and I didn’t have to worry about Pebble falling off. Plus, Pebble could do the zip line herself without me giving her a boost.

In addition to the zip line and the car, there is a spinner for multiple kids, a swing set, complete with a double swing, and a playset with the largest slide I’ve ever seen! The slide was so wide, it could have been 3 slides instead of one.

It is a wonderful new playground! Pebble had a great time exploring, and, early in the day, the park was partially shaded. I plan to bring all of the kids once school lets out, although Rainbow may be upset that there aren’t monkey bars. That seems to be the one thing this park is lacking. If your kids aren’t avid fans of monkey bars, then def check this park out! Happy trails!

Cool feature on the playset… Kids have to spin the wheel to get the sounds going.
Freestanding busy spot for the younger set…
