It is the most wonderful time of the year…strawberry time! I spent my childhood in a rural area, and, in the summertime, we would pick strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, even asparagus. If you love strawberries as much as my family does, then you need to check out Chase’s Farm Fresh Produce in Davidsonville. They have been offering pick-your-own hours off and on as the strawberry crop comes in. Look for them on Facebook by typing Chase’s Produce into the search. They update all of their hours and crop info on that Facebook page. When I found out Chase’s was open for pick-your-own strawberries from 5-8 on a weeknight, my husband and I scooped our kids up after school for a mini-adventure. Two out of three of the kids were very excited about the prospect of strawberries. In fact, when I mentioned we were going somewhere to get something that starts with the letter “S,” it was our youngest who immediately shouted out strawberries! I’m not sure if it was a lucky guess or maybe Pebble knows that strawberries does start with an “S.”

Chase’s Produce is located right off of 424. If you are driving south on 424, it is on your right side shortly after you drive over 50. The parking lot isn’t paved, so go slow. When we arrived, there were a fair number of cars already there, but there was still plenty of parking to be had. Upon the direction of the lovely ladies manning the checkout station, we picked up four plastic buckets, and walked down a wide grassy strip to the tractor stop. It took about ten minutes or so before the tractor circled back to pick us up and take us over to the field. While we waited, Rainbow ran to use the lone portable potty nearby, and then I took photos of the girls at the photo opp area.

Pebble was thrilled by the tractor ride! I think it was the first one she could remember, and her grin was from ear to ear! The tractor dropped us off at the strawberry fields where a woman assigned us a row, and gave us our marching orders. We happily worked our way up and down the row plucking fat strawberries that either went into the buckets or one of the kid’s mouths. It wasn’t long before the girls had red berry juice dripping down their chins, and everyone’s hands turned red and sticky. Maybe we should have weighed the kids before we went into the field and then after we came out! LOL! Rainbow needed to use the loo again, and, fortunately, there was another portable potty out near the fields. We picked berries for a good while, and filled two buckets. By that point, the kids were done, and we walked up the hill, and back to the checkout area.

It was the perfect adventure to have at the end of a long day. The berries are beyond delicious, and Stormy requested pancakes for dinner after berry picking. Rainbow and Pebble were quick to ask for pancakes, too. All three happily ate fresh pancakes with the strawberries, whipped cream, and chocolate chips. If you live anywhere nearby Chase’s, check out their Facebook page, and go pick some delicious berries! Happy trails!
