It was a very cold January morning, but all Pebble wanted to do was go to a playground and play on the swings. I had an errand to run in Odenton, and, when we were done, we headed for the Piney Orchard Community Center Playground. We parked in the lot for the Center, bundled up, and headed down the path around the side of the building to the playground. I had the portable potty with us as there are no restrooms at this playground, although there may be restrooms inside the Community Center, I don’t know.

The playground consisted of two structures, one for younger kids and one for older, plus a swing set. Pebble went straight to the swings and asked me to push her.

Pebble was happy to remain on the swings a while before checking out the rest of the playground. Her favorite part of the playground, aside from the swings, was a series of balance poles with stepping platforms that older kids used to move from one part of the structure to another. These balance poles have been a favorite of Pebble’s at the playgrounds lately, and Pebble is getting very good at traversing them!

When Pebble started feeling the cold, we took a walk around the pond to warm up. The fountains in the middle kept the water there moving, but it was icy along the shoreline. There was a waterfall on one side of the pond that Pebble stopped to watch a bit.

We’d walked almost entirely around the small pond and across a bridge before Pebble spotted a path she wanted to explore.

That path led us to a much smaller playground. There were no swings, and it was just one structure.

Pebble had a lot of fun exploring this mini playground, but the cold soon won out. We headed to the car to warm up. We were here less than an hour, but it helped get some of Pebble’s wiggles out. This wasn’t our first trip to this playground and it won’t be the last. The one reason we don’t come here as often is the shopping plaza near the playground. One of my favorite restaurants, Mama Roma’s, is in the complex, and on warmer days all the yummy smells waft over to the playground. It makes me hungry! Happy trails!
