Hi everyone! I know, I know, I haven’t posted anything in a while! Sorry about that…. Once school started and extracurriculars began, life went amuck, amuck, amuck! Time to play catch up here!
Right before school began, Rainbow begged to visit an old favorite, the dragon playground. It is one of Prince George’s County’s Imagination Playgrounds, and my girls call it the dragon playground for its medieval theme. It is located behind the South Bowie Community Center. From 301, you turn onto Mitchellville Road, and make the first left onto Pittsfield Lane. The community center will be on your left, with the playground in the rear. The nice thing about this playground is that it is gated, which helps keep little ones from running off. There are bathrooms inside the community center, but nothing closer to the playground. FYI, the playground is off limits later in the day during the school year due to the Center’s after school programming. I don’t remember the exact timing, though…
This playground is super cool! The equipment for the older kiddos is shaped like a giant dragon, with the tongue serving as a slide, while the younger kiddos have a castle to explore.
There are no swings at this playground, but this isn’t a deal breaker as there is plenty for the kids to do! Pebble had a blast climbing the dragon’s “wings.” One wing was a slanted climbing wall, and the other was netted climbing wall.
Rainbow and Stormy were much more interested in the spine and tail area of the dragon. Both love to climb, and this was the first time they both managed to climb high enough to sit atop the dragon. They were very proud of themselves!
When the kids weren’t clambering up the dragon, they crossed a pretend drawbridge to reach the castle. The castle area is perfect for the littles. There is a giant rock to climb, a slide, and musical notes to play.
All in all, we spent a good 90 minutes here! It was a hot day, but there is decent shade over much of the playground in the morning. FYI, there is a housing development going in nearby, and there were lots of construction vehicles to watch during our visit. Pebble had fun pointing out the dump trucks, excavators, bulldozers, etc. I highly recommend this playground! Happy trails!
