Pebble and I went exploring in early May. I had read on another mom’s blog about a playground in Bowie, MD that was not busy, shaded, and had lots of fun equipment to play on. The best way to find this park is to type 12319 Stonehaven Ln, Bowie, MD 20715 into your GPS. That isn’t the exact address of the park, but rather the address of Somerset Park 55+ Community. The exact address of the park will take you to a paved pathway, but no lot, which isn’t helpful. With the address for the 55+ Community, once you pull into the driveway you will see the entrance to 12319 to your left on the u shaped curve of the driveway. To your right is a parking lot, and, through the trees, you will see the playground.
This playground is awesome! Prince George’s County really knows how to design playgrounds! Pebble headed for the first playground she saw, which was the playground geared toward older kiddos. The playground for younger kids was a little further down the paved path in a separate mulched area! For Pebble, it was like having 2 different playgrounds in the same location! The older kids area had tunnels, tube slides, swings, and lots of places to climb! There was a musical Jam Box, here, too, but it didn’t work. Pebble explored for a bit before setting off for the second playset. This one had a mini obstacle course for kids, which included a rope bridge, balance beams, pods to jump on and off, and rings to climb through. There were more slides and tunnels, a see-saw, and another swing set. Between the playset and the swings were a variety of equipment that spins.
What surprised me was that Pebble was the only child here in this playground wonderland. The place is shaded, and there is parking, but no restrooms. The pathways are paved, so it is stroller friendly. It was quiet and peaceful… There is a tennis court, too, but no one was playing on this sunny day. Next to the tennis court was a small field where Pebble filled her flower collection bin to overflowing! So many dandelions! We had a blast playing here, and Pebble has said she wants to bring her sisters back here soon. She knows how much Stormy would love climbing everything! Thank you PG County for another great playground! Happy trails!
