Pebble and I first explored Loch Haven Park on Valentine’s Day. Like Riverwood Park, it is another playground in Anne Arundel County that has been updated in the last two years or so, and the photos on the website are of the old playground. Loch Haven Park is located at 3424 Pocahontas Drive, Edgewater, MD 21037. Just don’t plug Loch Haven Park into your GPS as I did on our first visit here. The GPS will want you to make a left on Glebe Heights Road, and that takes you to the dog park, not the playground. Pocahontas Drive is the next street after Glebe Heights when you are coming from Central Avenue. Once you turn onto Pocahontas Drive, you can’t miss the park on your left. There is ample parking, although that may fill up on days that baseball games are being held. In between the two main fields is a paved pathway that winds up to the playground, which sits on a rise above the fields. There are restrooms, but those looked closed for the season. We had our trusty portable potty for Pebble in tow.

The playground is compact with just one big playset and a set of swings. Pebble was thrilled to discover that there was a double swing that we could share, although be forewarned if you are short like me, it isn’t easy to get up onto the swing. I’m only 5’1, and the swing was level with my chest. I was surprised it had been hung up so high. When I did manage to get up, and I did manage to get us going, we had a great time, but it took a few minutes for my short legs to get things in motion. The playground also has two sets of monkey bars, and a small obstacle course, with two possible ways to clamber up onto the second level of the playset.

Pebble had a great time playing, and trying everything out. She loved the two spinners, and would have me spin her until she was almost too dizzy to walk. Pebble also loved running up and down the small hill the playground was set upon. It was a fun morning out, and, a few weeks later, we were able to bring her sisters to check the place out as well. I thought Stormy would love the double set of monkey bars, but, like the double swing, we discovered that the bars were almost too high for her to use. Rainbow couldn’t reach them at all, and monkey bars are one of her favorite things to do, just like Stormy.

We made the most of our second visit, but I’m not sure we will return to Loch Haven again any time soon. Don’t get me wrong, it is a nice playground with new and updated equipment, and there were some great climbing apparatus, but the equipment is placed almost too high for my girls to use. I suspect as well that once warmer weather arrives, along with the return of baseball games, this park will be hopping! Just some thoughts to keep in mind when and if you visit Loch Haven Park. Happy trails!
