My family and I have been go, go, go the last few weeks so I am a few blogs behind! Better late than never, right?
Last weekend, we went and checked out the Bowie Heritage Playground in Old Town Bowie. Best way to find the location is to plug 13105 Tenth St., Bowie, into the GPS. It takes you to a dead end road, and you can’t miss the playground! There are a few parking spots on the right side, or you can drive a bit further down the road and park in the cul-de-sac. There is a port a pottie available if you need it, although we did bring the portable for the kiddos.
FYI, this playground is right next to the train tracks. Stormy and Rainbow had no problem with the trains going by periodically, but Pebble was not a happy camper! She kept walking around with her hands over her ears. If you have a sound sensitive kiddo, be forewarned!
The playground is spaced out, and I was glad my husband was with me as each kid went in a different direction! Pebble headed to the swings, and Stormy and Rainbow tackled the giant climbing structure. Stormy was pleased as punch when she made it to the top, and Rainbow wasn’t far behind her!
After their feet were solidly back on the ground, they joined Pebble in checking out the town. This is what makes this park unique. The buildings are mini reproductions of historic buildings in Bowie. There is a school, fire house, post office, etc. All 3 girls had fun exploring.
In addition to the mini town, climbing structure, and swing set, there is a small nature themed play area with rocks to climb on, and stumps to jump on. There is also a standard jungle gym set with a slide and a rock wall to climb.
All in all, we spent a good two hours here! It started to get busier as the afternoon wore on, but everyone was able to spread out somewhat. There is a pathway one can take over to the Bowie Railroad Museum, but we didn’t do that on this trip. Pebble had had her fill of trains! The path also heads the other direction toward the WB&A trail and Bowie State. It is called the Bowie Heritage Trail. If you are looking for a new, fun playground to try, then check this place out! Happy trails!
