I have blogged about this playground once before, although that wasn’t our only visit here. I prefer not to blog about a place we’ve already been to if nothing has changed from our first visit. In my first post, I mentioned that there are two ways to get to this playground. One, you can turn into the shopping complex on 450 that includes the Harris Teeter, Mod Pizza, etc., and drive down past the Petco. The Community Center will be right in front of you, and there is plenty of parking. Or, two, you can drive down 450 and make a right or left onto Stonybrook Drive, depending on which way you are coming from on 450. You will see the Community Center on your left once you are on Stonybrook Drive, and you make the left into the shopping center, then a right to park. Once you park, you just follow the pathway around the building to the playground. The physical address is 3209 Stonybrook Drive, Bowie, MD 20715.
This playground is a favorite of Pebble’s, and, each time we come, she tries to climb higher on the equipment than she did the previous visit. Pebble remembers this playground as the one with the rope swing, she loves her swings! On this damp morning, I remembered to bring a towel with us as it had rained heavily the night before, and children plus wet equipment equals slippery! When Pebble was younger, one of the bonuses of this playground was that it was enclosed with a fence and a gate. Sadly, I discovered that this is no longer the case as the main gate has been removed, leaving an opening kids could make a break for if they aren’t being watched closely enough. The lack of a gate isn’t a problem for our family, but I imagine it could be for families with younger kiddos, hence why I wanted to blog about this place again.
We were the only hardy souls on this wet playground, but Pebble didn’t care. She was happy to help me dry off the equipment, and then climb to new heights. In the hut with the spider web of strong ropes, Pebble made it all the way to the top for the first time. She also conquered the rope bridge without my help, another big first! We swung on the rope swing together for a while, snuggling up, enjoying ourselves, and then we played over in the musical corner for a bit. Pebble thought it was great fun to climb on top of the drums, and use her feet instead of her hands.
This wasn’t a long playground visit, but it was perfect. Fresh air plus mom and Pebble time. It isn’t a huge playground, but it is well thought out, and I recommend it. Plus, there is a fair amount of shade, which is beneficial in the summer months. Happy trails!
