On Palm Sunday, we decided to check out a park closer to home. For a while now, we have wanted to check out Beverly Triton Nature Park. Our plan was to hike for a bit and do a picnic on the beach. That, of course, went sideways when we got to the park. The small lot was full and a very nice park ranger sent us to the overflow lot in a field across the street. We loaded up our daypack and set out.
We had looked at the trail map in advance and settled on doing the Pond Trail around Deep Pond. The park was busy! Lots of people and dogs, although most respected social distancing and kept 6 feet away. The trails were a little confusing to follow at first. Fortunately, I’d taken a screenshot of the trail map and had it handy. Once we moved off the trails closest to the lot, it got marginally less busy and the trail also got narrower.
The views of Deep Pond were gorgeous! We could see why so many people were out and enjoying the fresh air. And yes, those are Christmas trees in the photo below! The Park asks for donations after Christmas to help with erosion around the pond. Cool idea!
Once we finished circling the pond, we ended up on the Beach Trail. The views of the Chesapeake Bay were beautiful!
Unfortunately, we were greeted with signage that meant our picnic on the beach was toast!
We followed the Beach Trail to the Service Road and then to the car. We passed multiple large groups on our way to the lot. We saw that the picnic tables were all roped off, and the porta-potties were locked. The vibe was definitely that the park is open, but please keep moving! We ended up sitting on a blanket next to our car eating our picnic before going home. Our girls were disappointed about the lack of time on the beach, but all in all we had fun! Will we come back? Probably not until the beach opens again…
I had no idea there is a pond and the views are so beautiful. We’ll definitely have to check it out. 🙂 Thank you for sharing!
Thank you!
