March 9, 2020 was the last time I took my girls to a playground before the pandemic began. Stormy was in school, but Rainbow, Pebble and I headed out to have some fun. Allen Pond Park is in Bowie, and it is a favorite of ours! There are two playgrounds, one for older kids and one for younger. On this day, we headed straight for the preschool playground.
Once in the preschool area, the girls made a beeline for the swings. Allen Pond has a double swing so Pebble can swing in the baby swing and Rainbow on the flat seat. They love being on the swing together!
After the swings, it was time for the slides, seesaw, lots of running, and plenty of giggling! Usually, we walk down the path to the bridge to the island. The girls like to climb the hill up to the gazebo. There is a great view of Allen Pond from there! This time, they just wanted eat pretzels and sit on the rocks near the edge of the pond. There were lots of geese and the ducks to watch. The birds were hoping for handouts, but we hadn’t brought any food that was good for their bellies.
Because Pebble had gotten up so early that day, she didn’t last long at the park. I told Rainbow we’d come back again soon so she could play on the older kids playground. That soon has not yet happened and we look forward to the day playgrounds open once again. When the playgrounds do open, I highly recommend checking this park out! On days we stay and play longer, the girls will often climb up on the stage to dance and put on their own shows. There is a great paved walk around the Pond, too. Happy trails!
